This section reflects the hospital’s growing visibility and contributions to veterinary medicine, livestock development, public health, research, community engagement, and national development through various media platforms and public communication channels.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) livestock team kicked off the week with post-distribution veterinary support in Jere LGA, collaborating with veterinarians from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Together, they will be providing free veterinary services to programme participants (and non-participants) of FAO’s livestock restocking initiative after the recent flooding.

Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Borno State Chapter Partner UMVTH

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Borno State Chapter EXCO continues to make progress in strengthening veterinary services and strategic partnerships within the state. In a recent development, the Exco held a productive meeting with the management of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri led by the Director Prof. Muhammad M. Bukar, where discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between NVMA and the VTH, particularly in areas of vaccination activities, capacity strengthening for young veterinarians, involvement of private veterinarians in ambulatory services, and continues involvement of the association in any areas of possible collaboration.

In continuation of the chapter’s stakeholder engagement, the EXCO also visited the Core Group, where discussions centered on sustained collaboration in animal welfare, community awareness and campaigns, disease surveillance and reporting, zoonotic diseases, as well as strengthening the one Health approach through improving access to veterinary services at the community level across the state.

The EXCO remains committed to advancing the veterinary profession and promoting animal and public health in Borno State.
